About Us
Since 2005, we, at Partners In Psychotherapy & Assessment, have been providing mental health services to children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. Conditions treated include depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, behavior problems, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, developmental disorders, relationship issues, stress management, loss or grief, and personality disorders. Our psychologists also conduct psychological evaluations to assist with diagnostic clarification and guide treatment planning.

Anthony Helma, Psy.D.

Dr. Anthony Helma is a clinical psychologist who is dually licensed in Illinois and Indiana and has been practicing since 2003. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University and his Master of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Helma has worked in various domains of behavioral health, including state mental health hospitals, adolescent residential facilities, community mental health, and private practice. He has provided therapeutic services to children and families referred by insurance, physicians, and the Indiana Department of Child Services as well as conducted court-ordered psychological evaluations and child custody evaluations through Lake and Porter County Courts. Dr. Helma currently treats children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

Kwang Choi-Helma, Psy.D.

Dr. Kwang Choi-Helma is a clinical psychologist who is dually licensed in Illinois and Indiana and has been in practice since 2004. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Western Michigan University and Master of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Choi's work experience includes adolescent residential facilities, adolescent partial hospitalization programs, university child development clinic, community mental health, and private practice. She has also provided therapy and diagnostic services to children within the Indiana Department of Child Services as well as conducted child custody evaluations and supervised therapeutic visitations through the Lake County Courts. Dr. Choi currently treats children as young as two years old to adults 75+ and provides individual, family, and couples therapy.
Kathy Z., MA, LPC, NCC, is a clinical psychotherapist who is able to provide counseling services in both English and Polish. Kathy earned her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Boston University. Kathy has experience working in psychiatric hospitals, community mental health agencies, grammar schools, and private practice. She specializes in adolescent and adult populations with an emphasis on mood disorders, life transitions, and self-esteem issues. Kathy also has experience working with individuals who present with cultural issues, relationship difficulties, and trauma. Through an eclectic approach of treatment modalities, Kathy works with each individual client to build deeper insight into the root of their distress and helps to empower clients to lead more authentic and fulfilling lives.
